Medicare is one of the nation’s most popular social programs. For over 50 years, it has successfully provided people 65 and over, those with disabilities and certain medical conditions with access to comprehensive healthcare without fear of bankruptcy.
In recent Congressional debates, different proposals that threaten Medicare's sustainability have been raised. PNHP is organizing with allies to oppose privatization, cuts, and reductions in benefits to Medicare, and calling for its improvement and expansion.
A truly single-payer system, improved Medicare-for-All, will sustain the Medicare program for future generations by reducing administrative waste, providing global budgeting for hospitals, savings in bargaining for prescription drugs, and including everyone in a well-organized health care system.
We need health professionals to raise their voices to defend Medicare and call for a truly sustainable solution: improved Medicare-for-All!
