Panel Discussion: Moving Beyond the Affordable Care Act: Improved, expanded Medicare for All
There is currently much discussion about different systems of healthcare and exactly what each of the options means for patients, providers, and healthcare industry employees. One of the options is a single-payer or "Medicare for all" system which would provide healthcare to all Americans with the potential for significant cost reductions.
Dr. Sunny Aslam, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse and member of Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP), will speak on the advantages of single-payer and how it would improve our current system.
Also speaking will be Jeanette Zoeckler, Director of Research and Special Projects with the Occupational Health Clinical Centers in Syracuse. She is a member of the Syracuse Campaign for New York Health organizing committee and a volunteer with the NY Health Access report project and will be addressing the New York Health Act which provides a single payer solution for New York State residents.
In addition, there will be a panel of local residents who have lived in countries with single-payer health care systems who will share their experiences. If you have questions about single-payer, this is an opportunity to have them answered. Hear how our current system of healthcare provision is ultimately unaffordable, unsustainable, and inequitable and how single-payer would address those issues.
In light of the third failed attempt to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, this is a program not to be missed.
